This British Standard specifies characteristics of a chromium-nickel-copper-molybdenum corrosion resisting steel supplied in the following forms and as parts, for general aerospace use:
forging stock and billets and bars for subsequent working: softened designation S144A;
forgings: solution treated and primary hardened designation S144C;
forgings: solution treated, primary hardened and precipitated, designation S144G;
black bars for machining: solution treated and primary hardened, designation S144B;
black bars for machining: solution treated, primary hardened and precipitated, designation S144F;
bright bars for machining: solution treated, primary hardened and subsequently machined or ground, designation S144D;
bright bars for machining: solution treated, primary hardened and precipitated, designation S144H;
drawn bars for machining: solution treated, primary hardened and subsequently cold drawn or cold treated and re-primary hardened, designation S144E.
