This is the third edition of CSA C22.2 No. 89, Swimming-pool luminaires, submersible luminaires, and accessories, part of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. It supersedes the previous editions published in 1976 and 1968. This Standard also replaces the following Technical Information Letter (TIL), for products covered in this Standard: CSA TIL No. B-44, Permanently Connected, Cord-Connected and Direct Plug-In Lighting Systems Incorporating Nicheless Luminaire Assemblies that Employ Extra-Low Voltage Incandescent Lamps for Use in Pools. This Standard applies to submersible lighting systems and associated components for installation in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I that are
This Standard covers submersible lighting systems for connection to a supply circuit of not more than 150 V, intended for swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, fountains, decorative pools, waterfalls, and similar submersible applications.

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
