Preface

This is the first edition of CSA Z630, Barbecue grill brushes . Performance requirements in this Standard are limited to requirements that address safety aspects of the product within its scope, taking into account environmental conditions in which the product is intended to be used and the level of knowledge of the expected users. This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. CSA Group acknowledges that the development of this Standard was made possible, in part, by funding from Health Canada and the support of the Standards Council of Canada. This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Barbecue Brush Safety, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Health and Well-being, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.

Scope
1.1

This Standard provides requirements for the performance, testing, and marking of hand-held barbecue grill brushes and replacement heads with metal bristles for consumer use, intended to clean cooking surfaces of barbecue grills.

This Standard does not cover the effectiveness of barbecue grill brushes to clean cooking surfaces of barbecue grills.

1.3

This Standard does not cover all means available to clean cooking surfaces of barbecue grills. Note: Other means to clean cooking surfaces of barbecue grills can include, but are not be limited to,

  1. brushes or scrapers without bristles or with non-metallic bristles
  2. cleaning blocks or stones
  3. pot scrubbers
  4. cloths
  5. motor-operated brushes
  6. and continuous-coil grill brushes

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
