These guidelines cover pin and socket connectors (male and female) for use in PV applications in outdoor locations, including wet locations. The connectors are intended for use in DC applications, rated up to 1500 V and 32 A. These PV connectors are permitted for use as isolation devices as installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code® (NEC) NFPA 70. These connectors are for use as non-load break connectors. These pins and sockets are also designed for Class II applications according to IEC 61140.

These guidelines are focused on aspects of the pins and sockets that could reasonably be expected to affect the Intermateability between different manufacturers. Additional design requirements are specified in other standards such as ANSI/UL 62852 and ANSI/UL 6703.
